As I came to my 2 year anniversary of my journey, I asked myself what was different in 2010..How did I keep my resolution when for so many years before I had failed. Lots of what you read below is true...It was a revelation. I didn't set sail on this journey with a well thought out map of hat I was going to do, and when it would happen by. I had a plan..I thought it out, and I followed it thru. I knew what my long term plan was and what my short term goals were. I made manageable steps thru the process and each step drove me to succeed. I am hoping that the article I read will help you...
My advice:
Take the time to write down your goals. How much do you want to lose and how long will it take to get there. What mini goals will there be along the way. How will you see yourself when you get there, what will it feel like. What will people say when they see you and how will you react. It is like writing a play..The play of your healthy life. Every book has a title..A beginning, middle, and end. Within that book are chapters..points and stops along the way as the story unfolds...Another chapter in my life is starting. The story continues...What is your story...What do you see yourself...If I wrote a book, The title of my book would be "Tackling Mountains-A Journey of Health"...What would your story be called? Think about it and get to writing!
If you are looking to make that change and get on track this year.. I have started a Private Challenge Group. We will offer challenges to motivate you and keep you on track. I hope you will join me and others as we support each other to get and stay healthy for good...If you arent't sure what to do to lose the weight or how to get started.... I have the program for you. I highly recommend the one that has gotten me to where I am today...136.5 pounds gone for good!

A great article:
Why do so many people talk of, and even admit to, making New Year's resolutions when almost none of them will be kept?
Resolution: "The state or quality of being resolute; firm determination. Resolving to do something…"
Is it a self-defeating prophesy or just an empty wish?
It's a mystery. Or at the very least, a paradox.
It's not a resolute or firm determination, as much as a leftover list for Santa just in case he might want to bring us something before next Christmas.
Statistics show that somewhere in the vicinity of 97% of New Year's resolutions won't be kept…why? Goals expert Michael York offers his explanation and what to do about it…
"What if we resolved to make better choices and better decisions?
What if…there were a whole new way to get to your destination? To do this, or become that? As many studies and statistics as there are to support that resolutions just don't hold water or help us develop the habits that lead to what we say it is we want, there are equally as many supporting the fact that many people, in fact most people, don't set goals"
York says effective goals are more than just thinking or stating a "wish" out loud but actually taking a pen and paper and beginning the process. Promoting his case that success in any endeavor has substantial evidence that it is a PROCESS. The getting from point A to point B.
As a consultant and author of The 10 Commitments,
York asks live audiences, "If success is a journey then why can't we get better directions?
And why our repeated failures with resolutions and goals?"
The reasons he says are simple…
1. Most people expect not to keep a resolution
2. Most don't know how to truly set goals or don't believe it matters
Spanning a 30 year career as a disc jockey, journalist, salesperson/manager and now as a business consultant to selling organizations,
York offers his evidence on the secret of goals.
"Hidden in our everyday lives is the real truth.
Architects know it.
Coaches know it.
Builders and rocket scientists know it.
Blueprints and game plans and models WORK!"
In his E book Uncommon Goals, York takes the simple approach. "Goals are personal. Or should be. It's more about gaining an understanding of what it really means to have goals as a compass to take you in a specific direction or away from some undesirable destination.
Of the small percentage of individuals who set goals (typically salespeople)it is often something that has been handed to them from someone else, seldom anything more than a number you must deliver. Ship this number of packages, make this number of sales, etc. In short, WORK goals"
Maybe his greatest success, York is quick to point out, is as a husband of 27 years and a father of two, "Life is bigger than work, not everyone got the memo on that one. That's the critical thing to consider when setting goals or priorities for our lives"
For more on his goals for life, as well as work,

All about my journey to regain my life, lose weight and get healthy once and for all..
Where Has The Time Gone..
Wow! Can you believe it has been an entire year since the last time I blogged here.. I don't even know where to begin. So much has happened since the last time I was here. There is so much to share. I will try to bring you up to speed on what has been going on in my life without making this post a book.
As of today I have lost a total of 136.5 pounds total. I have pretty much maintained well over the past year with a few more pounds coming off along the way.. I have gone from size 26 to size 12 in 2 years time. Through exercise I have toned quite a bit and I am happy with how I look.
I have continued my journey to get a black belt. I am currently at my brown belt level. While it is hard work and takes lots of dedication, I am enjoying the fact that I can even do the stuff at all.
Eating has taken on a new roll in my life. It no longer is front and center..my health is. If you remember from my previous posts, I took on the roll of a health coach for the same program that helped me.. I have been blessed to be a part of the many lives that have transformed as a result of this amazing program. To play even a small part in that is truly inspiring to me. They keep my head in the game and help me to keep my focus and set the example. My heart goes out to those that struggle like I once did..I want them to know that there is hope, but it takes them to make the first step.
What I have found over the past 2 years is that what you put into it, is what you get out. You have to educate yourself. Read anything and everything that make you the expert for your life. Ask questions, do the research. The internet is full of sources for answering your questions. I think for me if I could put my finger on the one thing that got me where I am today, it was my friends both close and people I have met along the way. I think it important to seperate yourself from those who bring you down. They aren't your friend if they are not trying to help you. They should want you to succeeed as much as you want to. Surround yourself with people who will keep you on your path, and will speak victory and success over you. Do not give up...
Here is my motto:
"If you think it is a mountain...it probably is, but with slow steady steps in a forward direction, even the biggest of mountains can be conquered. You will eventually find yourself on the top of the world!"
Don't stop..keep at it.. YOU CAN DO ALL THINGS!
I'M STILL ON THE JOURNEY......
I kinda wondered how things would go as I got closer to the big goal, and as I thought it would...the scale has slowed down a lot for me. With all the exercising I am doing now, I think I have stabalized my weight...until this past week when it began to move again! I was so excited to see the new number that I got on and off the scale a few times just to be sure.. I have lost another 5 pounds! I am now officially at 110 pounds down and 15 pounds from my next goal..It should be my final goal, but I say next goal because I have come to realize that losing my weight is really on part of the goals I have set for myself. I want to maintain and keep it off..That is why I feel without a doubt I have done the right program this time. Not only am I learning about weights, food portions, controlling urges, and more than ever about how my body works with regard to food..there is so much more to learn yet. If I think of this as a diet with a beginning and an end, I only fool myself. There is no end..This is a lifetime of little goals along the way and each success is victory for me and an confirmation to move forward. I hope that all of you realize that this is definately something each of you can do.I can't stress to you enough how important it is to always keep a positive outlook even when the day didn't go so great. Just find something positive in your day...Like, so you slipped up and failed..don't dwell on that..The positive would be that you didn't gain weight that day and you caught yourself and got back on plan...
It's all baby steps for us all..and even at 110 down, I am still on the journey to better my overall health..not just for today (even though I take this one day at time), but for every day of my life. Wishing you all much success and you journey too..Please feel free to email any time..I would love to chat and shar what has worked for me..pattie@GetSlim4Good.com.. WHAT A WAY TO END A YEAR....
Wow...So much has happened since the last time I posted here..Things have been pretty incredible and life is ever changing for me. I finish that 21 day Bootcamp in September..I improved my bridge run time and found a love for running in the process. The Boot Camp stretched me at times, but it was all good and I learned so much about myself and how much farther I go.
In fact there have been several exciting things happen..The most exciting is that I started this journey in January 2010 and I finished the year 105 pounds lighter and a whole lot happier. I took myself to levels I never imagined. Just to bring you up to speed. After my first Boot Camp, I was addicted..so I did another one! Just as fun and just as challenging. Still doing karate. I am now an Orange Belt and continuing to learn and grow there as well. I did a Kata competition and I participated in a Sparing event where I got to train with the Blackbelts and learn about sparing. What fun!
The holidays were a little bit of a challenge, but I survived. I got to go see my family. Enjoyed the healthier feel to the holidays. To celebrate that, I registered with my family and several family members to run what was my first 5K run on Thanksgiving day in Nashville at the Habitrot Run! What a way to start the holidays. I did really well and finished my 1st 5K in 39:16 min. Not crazy good, but not bad either for a beginner. The important thing is I finished the race. Thanksgiving and Christmas was no longer revolving around food. It was about new beginnings and health. The best holidays ever!
Ohhh...Did I mention that I did 2 more 5K's before Christmas! Yes..The next race was the Reindeer Run in Nassau Bay, Texas where I ran the race in 38:39. The next one was the Dickinson Gator Crawl where I finished in 37:00. Do you the pattern of improvement? I was so excited. There hasn't been many races once the weather got cold, but I fully intend to pick this up again in the spring. In fact, my first scheduled race is the Warrior Dash on March 19th in Conroe, Texas where I will run a 3.3 mile race/11 station obstacle course. This will be a challenge. If I complete it ok, or should I say when I complete it...I will sign up for the big obstacle 6 mile event in May called the Original Mud Run. Yes, did I mention it is all done in the mud! I am so looking forward to this event and being a muddy (and healthy) mess. LOL.
Well, as I look back on 2010... I think what a whirlwind year this was. A year ago things were so different. I was so very unhappy with myself and my health wasn't the best. Out of the gate January 2010, I started an amazing journey to better my health. The year started out with me standing at the bottom looking at the mountain I needed to climb to get to where I wanted...it was huge! I was scared of failing yet again, and I was ashamed of what I had allowed myself to become with regards to my weight and appearance. But because I was determined to succeed and had both my mind and my heart in the right place, day by day, step by step, pound by pound, I worked on the mountains in my life.
I lost 105 pounds as the year came to a close. I ran my first of many 5K runs, I completed 2 Boot Camps, I started Karate! (I know Master G-quite the shocker LOL) Blackbelt 2014 here I come! I do want to lose a little more and will know when I get there but somewhere around 20 pounds. January 1st I closed the book on 2010, reset the clock and start the New Year fresh to finish this and see what new is in store for my life.
This journey to better health has been amazing to say the least. I have met some of the most wonderful people this year that each have offered me encouragement and support. They have carried me at times and always been my side. I have been richly blessed to find your friendships and I know they will be lasting ones. To you I say a heartfelt THANK YOU
You know behind every successful person, there is that one certain someone that paves the path for us and leads the way. In my life, it is my husband. When I started this, I remember saying...what if I spend the money and I fail again. He said to me, "what if you do it and it works." if it wasn't for that, I would have talked myself out of it. But I did start and now look! My husband and my kids enlisted to help me and they have said no more times than I can count. My kids are the fridge police! I think I would have easily cheated without them to remind me that I could do this. Weakness in our mind can be really controlling. To my hubby and kids, YOU are my world, my light, my everything... Thank you for loving me enough for all of us when I didn't love myself that much. God and the 3 of you are what got me to this point. Now we are the family that works out together, does karate together, runs together....etc... THANK YOU SO MUCH! The Lord blessed me with a strong and determined individual to lead our family. You are such an awesome example for our kids and for others to see. I Love you!
To my Brother...you have been the rock of our family since Mom died when we were very young. It was a hard road for us growing up without her and Dad did his best. A huge load for a young man to carry was watching after this sister.. I was quite a handful. You were an awesome example and I held you on a pedestal. You always watched out for me. And then you became the rock of your own family only to live the loss of a wife with young children to raise like we were. I'm so sorry... but you have done an amazing job and you have a beautiful family. Life is never perfect. Families aren't perfect. Miles and busy lives have separated us. I'm so glad we spent time together this year and I look forward to more time together. You have raised an awesome bunch of kids..I love you all.
There are so many incredible people to thank for this amazing year...many of you have touched my life beyond measure. You know who you are and from the bottom of my heart I thank you for all you have done and are doing to help me reach my potential. I'm running this race to win! I guess when we open our hearts, things appear to us much differently and the transformation is allowed to take place. This has been my year of transformation. Those who are very close to our family can tell you that I am not the same person this year. That's a good thing people! Lol ...I love the new me, but I'm not done yet. There is still work to be done.
To those of you walking a similar path to better health, I tell you this... If it looks like a mountain...it is. But when you take it one day at a time and keep chugging along, the next thing you know you are at the top! Don't quit, don't stop, and don't give up. If you don't have a support system, find one...make it happen for yourself. Avoid those that are negative in your life, and surround yourself with positive, supportive people. Don't let any of the "stuff that comes up" keep you from obtaining what you really want for yourself. Keep pushing forward and find your rocks to lean on....You will find them at your work, on Facebook, in your home, friends, family...etc... And most importantly in God and in your church. If you don't have a church, find one or ask me. You can do anything you set your mind to. This was my year of transformation. Next year is about finishing the job and paying it forward to help others. It can be your year too.
God is doing an amazing work in my life and I am humbled and bless by his love for me and for others who seek Him. He loves us all so much. I couldn't do my life right without him and I encourage each of you who don't have a relationship with God to make 2011 a year of seeking Him and his plan for your life. Once we align ourselves with God, there is nothing we can't accomplish!
God Bless each of you. Thanks for this incredible year..it ranks right up their with finding the love of my life ( yes, that's you Bob!) and being blessed with our 2 sons. God is good everyday...I just had to get my eyes off me and focused on him.
I am so happy that for a change I can have a different New Years resolution this year instead of weight loss...you have no idea how exciting that is! Happy New Year everyone....for me, this year is my
HAPPY NEW LIFE celebration.....I'm on top of the mountain and the view is spectacular!
......Now go chase after those dreams, and make them a reality!

FACING GIANTS
Wow..this 21-day Boot Camp has been an incredible experience so far. I am getting to learn different techniques that I have never even heard of before. This post will be about days 5-7.
BOOT CAMP DAY 4 Thursday
My muscles are sore today. The exercises are a bit more intense and I am sure there is more to come as we are expected to reach a little further and dig a little deeper. This evening started out with some bible study, videos, and just reviewing things..We went over some of the core scriptures. When I looked at the clock, an hour had past. Was I gonna get a break tonight and be able to rest my muscles? No...We still had a work out and what happened was we went over about 30 minutes. It was Tabata! Boy that is a killer workout. We still put in our time! Master G. announced the upcoming weekend workout options..
Friday night....Bridge Run to establish personal record #2
Saturday...Kickboxing Class and Make-up Class (for those that take Karate)
Sunday...Exercise at home..Bible Study..or rest..This is the Lord's Day
BOOT CAMP DAY 7 Saturday
Bridge run went well...not everyone showed up, but for those that wanted to run it was nice. My hubby even came along. The boys were with friends. I improved my run time again which means I moving forward..I am really beginning to fall in love with the process. We did a little bit of excercise after the run..some sprints and stretching, etc...I was even given the opportunity to speak with some of the Boot Campers about my weight loss and tell some of my story. If it helps even one other person to take that next step in inproving their better overall health, that would be awesome.

If it helps even one other person to take that next step in inproving their better overall health, that would be awesome.
LOVING THE PROCESS!
In this Blog posting I will tell you about Day 2-4 of Boot Camp...which is going well so far. But first I want to update you on my weight loss...I am at 88 pounds down as of today...Whoohoo..The scale is moving slow at this point, but I have picked up my exercise and we are working thru adjust my eating to offset the intensity. My clothes are much loser regardless...so I know I am losing inches which is ok too..Other than that, not much to tell. I think I know why they don't want us over-exercising..Because it actually builds your level of hunger. You crave more food. I am fighting it and doing ok...I still have my eye on my goal...
BOOT CAMP DAY 2
Well Day 2 of Boot Camp is now officially behind me.....I made it to my karate class before going to Boot Camp..I was hoping that it would not be too hard on me, but I did better than I thought I would..We pretty much just set our Crossfit PR Numbers for the class. We will compare those numbers as we move along in the process to guage our improvement as we go along.. Just getting oriented into the process. Master Garza talked about how some people take off from the starting line at a race going all out, and many of those people are not the first to finish the race, with some not finishing at all. He spoke of our lives are not measured by how fast we sprint away from the finish line....its that we run the full race and complete it.
1Corinthians 9:24-27 says:
"In a race, everyone runs but only one person gets first prize, so run your race to win. To win the contest you must deny yourself of many things that keeps you from doing your best. An athlete goes to all this trouble just to win a blue ribbon or a silver cup, but we do it for the heavenly reward that never disappears. So I run straight to the goal with purpose in every step. I fight to win. I'm not just shadow-boxing or playing around. Like an athlete, I punish my body, treating it roughly, training it to do what it should, and not what I want it to do. Otherwise, I fear that after enlisting others to run the race, I myself might be declared unfit and ordered to stand aside."
To me, what I get out of that is that each of us have our own race to win in life but it isn't just about the trophies and "things"..our race is for far greater a purpose..It is to fulfill all that God has for us..and that in order to truly succeed and hear the words "good and faithful servant", we must put God first and then everything else will follow.
Master Garza is amazing man of God. It is such an honor to be training under him for this Boot Camp..He is wealth of information and knowledge both in his Martial Arts training and in his spiritual training. He brings God to the front of his studio and he blessed because of that..transforming many lives and creating lifelong friendships along the way.
Back to the training...We did do a little mit work with our gloves too..the PR stuff took much our time. Day 3 will take it up a notch..
BOOT CAMP DAY 3
Take it up a notch is right! Day 3 of Boot Camp brings a little bit of stiffness in my body, but nothing I can't handle. I can sure feel the areas that had not been getting worked prior to this. Tonight Master Garza taught us about the difference between a Sprinter (HIIT) and a Runner (LIT), and how the two train and what the difference are.
HIIT=High Intesity Interval Training
LIT=Low Intensity Training
We got alot of information on this, but the short version is this (or at least what I grasped):
There are visual differences between the two.. The Sprinter has larger muscles, The LD Runner is smaller in build. The Sprint has a lower Body Fat%, etc.. HIIT traumitizes your body, allowing you quicker results and the effects last beyond the actual workout. With LIT, you burn alot of calories during the training, but they stop when you are done and everything is more gradual. You are not traumitzing the body. That being said...the HIIT is the better and more effective of the two.
Well, we found that out first hand because we got put to the test at Boot Camp. We did alot of Plyometrics for Day 3, along with running Sprints in between that..It was quite intense and he ran us teams of 5..so we had to stay with our team and encourage one another. Fast Sprint, jog, repeat.
BOOT CAMP DAY 4
I think I am realizing that the intensity to this Boot Camp is just getting started. Day 4 was crazy intense..especially for someone like me who is just starting out in all this. My exercise for the day started out with Karate class..I had a different instructor and he was pretty intense. I left class, changed my clothes and then went right into Boot Camp. It started out with some Bible study which I think is awesome..Master Garza has a way of explaining things in terms that really make sense and shows us how it applies to our everyday life. Plus by starting out the evening with the word, it sets the tone for the entire evening.
We began the evening with jumping rope and learning jumping techniques. Next was the Kettle Bell work out...Now for those of you who are not familiar, it is a semi-round weight with a handle and a flat bottom..remind me of swinging an anchor. Anyway, you hold this and do certain movements. It doesn't look like much, but it killer. A great exercise tool for sure. We did that for a little bit, and then went back to jumping rope. The last time I jumped rope, I was a litle girl..so my coordination was a little off. I almost forgot how to do it! The next item up was the Medicine Ball..thank God mine was a 6 pound weight because at that point it felt like 100 pounds..Of course there is special techniques he is teaching us all along the way with each item. At one point we had to do pushups with the ball in one hand, and then both hands on the ball....Near impossible for me at this point. I hope to get there before the Boot Camp ends..Lastly, we went on the mats and did something called Tabata. It appears to be a series if fast based sets (8) that you do as fast as you can..with a very short rest in between each..We used the medicine ball and did situps..I was workin those abs, but each set got harder and harder. After that we put on kickboxing gloves and hit combinations on the bags. We finished the evening nice and sweaty.
Master Garza tells us that we had not seen the hardest of this yet...Now, THAT make me nervous. I am struggling now...but I will keep the smile, and keep giving my all. I'll be back to update you soon...So far so good. 16 days remain after today. Keep me in your prayers. I still can't beleive I am doing this, but I must say I am enjoying it all. The friends I am making, the lessons I am learning, the teamwork, and stretching myself..It's all part of the growth I came to get..mentally, physically, and spiritually..I don't think we ever stop growing, but I can tell you that I have surprised myself this year...I have not been one to complete things I start, so this will be huge for me both with the Boot Camp and in my weight loss. I can see the finish line and I staying focused. I hope that each of you are having the same kind of successes...Just remember, you are your own unique creation..and you have your own race to run in life. Do your best, keep your focus....and don't stop till you get there... If you need an awesome program for weight loss and learning healthy habits for life...go to google http://www.GetSlim4Good.com
