Why does a person lose weight safely and quickly?

This program works by putting you in a “fat burning state”. This is more technically known as a very mild "dietary ketosis." Ketosis is a stage of metabolism where your body has depleted the reserves of its main form of energy – glycogen. Once those reserves are gone, your liver will begin breaking down stored fat in the body for use as energy. Breaking down the fat yields fatty acids and three types of ketone bodies (hence, the name ketosis). The ketones are then burned by the cells in your body as an alternative fuel. We try to stay away from the name “Ketosis” because of the negativity associated with it. We will call it “Fat Burning” or the “Fat Burning State”.
Getting Into the Fat Burning State (FB)

Arguably, the worst part of being on the program is getting into FB. Our bodies have done what they’ve always done for millions of years – they’ve adapted to life as they know it. Our lives have led to us being overweight by indulging in bad foods in bad quantities. Our bodies are now used to that type of existence. Introducing a new nutritional paradigm (ketosis) to our bodies will necessitate it’s adapting to the new condition. This adaptation is stressful for the body and we will feel the effects.
First, your body will notice a dramatic drop in caloric intake at first. We’ve gotten our bodies used to abundant calories and carbohydrates for long periods of time or to an up and down pattern of calories/carbs which our bodies see as “feast or famine”. Either way, when we take the calories/carbs away, our bodies will react:
Hunger – you’re going to feel hunger because your body is used to having more than it has now. Not a typical for dieting in general.
Fatigue – you’re taking in dramatically less fuel (food) than you used to and your body will probably try to compensate by getting you to slow down your expenditure of energy. It does this by decreasing your metabolic rate. This can make you feel tired, even dizzy. It’s a type of warning that your body’s giving you saying “if you don’t get some food, I’m going to start burning fat!”
Headache – some report headaches associated with “carbohydrate withdrawl”. Whether it’s truly withdrawl or not, I don’t know. However, it certainly seems that way to those who suffer its effects. The typical headache relief methods (ibuprofen, acetaminophen, aspirin) are allowable while on MF, however your stomach may seem more sensitive to them because it’s no longer loaded with food. Try to use such products soon after having a meal and drink plenty of water.
Irritability – when your hungry, tired and/or have a headache…you can be understandably irritable. Try to keep in mind that you may be more inclined to react negatively to things during this short time and don’t go off on those who don’t deserve it.
The good news is that this transition generally lasts only 2-4 days. Once you’re in FB, you’ll feel a difference in your energy level. It will go up significantly as your body begins to enjoy having an alternative fuel source – fat stores!
Being in Fat Burning

As the ketones pervade your bloodstream to supply the cells with energy, your state of FB begins to manifest some side effects. Some of those side effects are disquieting, but they’re not bad for you.
Ketones will show up in your urine, which are sometimes able to be detected with Ketostix, but the state of ketosis that MF evokes is so mild that often such tests won’t show a positive result on the Ketostix.
One of the three types of ketones is permeable to the lungs and can pass from the blood through the lung walls and becomes incorporated into your exhalations, the same way that carbon dioxide passes out of the body. This can cause “ketosis breath” and a slight metallic taste in the mouth. This is unpleasant, but can be easily overcome with frequent brushing of teeth (a few times a day) and sugarless gum/mints.
Menses can also be affected while in ketosis. Your cycle may be disrupted or cease all together. While this is an odd occurrence for a woman, it is not completely unexpected while in this state.
You may occasionally feel hunger while in FB, but it should be more mild than normal. Since you’re eating every few hours, you shouldn’t feel that gnawing sensation associated with hunger prior to being in ketosis. As your body adapts to the new circumstances, it may even develop an internal clock that will make you mildly hungry right around meal time. For some, there is no hunger at all and people need to remember or even be reminded that they need to eat!
Another side effect for some is an increased sensitivity to cold. Hands and feet can be particularly effected. I am normally very hot blooded, yet my hands and feet became ice cold when in FB. Hot drinks (tea, coffee, MF cocoa/chai tea/mocha/cappuccino), sweaters, heat packs, etc can all help with this.

Breaking Fat Burning

Staying in Fat Burning revolves around keeping your body from getting excess carbohydrates. If your body comes to the conclusion that there are enough carbohydrates available to use as its main fuel source, it will end the FB state and resume using carbohydrates. This crash out of FB has some side effects as well:
Hunger – your body will assume that since you’re getting enough carbs to end FB, there must be ample food available. Coming out of FB and having food available is exactly the type of situation that the body has adapted for over the millennia - “Feast or Famine”. Now, it sees it as a time to feast so that you can replenish the glycogen that you depleated while getting into FB. That replenishment requires more fuel – more food! Therefore, your body tells you to eat, eat and eat. You’ll be almost insatiably hungry.
Immediate and dramatic weight gain – As your body restores its glycogen, you’re gaining weight…quickly. Several pounds in a period of a couple days is not uncommon.
Resuming Fat Burning

If you fall out of FB for some reason, the best thing to do is to start working to get right back in it. Follow the program as if you didn’t do anything to fall out.
If you “cheated” and had a candy bar or a hoagie or whatever, resume the program as if you hadn’t had it at all. Keep on your meal schedule and get in your 5 MF meals and a Lean and Green. Don’t abandon the day, weekend or week by just giving up on it because you’ve “screwed it up”. Just get right back into the program immediately.
Doing this helps to significantly reduce the amount of time it takes to get back into FB. The longer you stay out of FB, the longer it takes to get back into it. So, hop right back on the wagon!

THE OLD HABITS WITHIN

Checking in again with all my favorite peeps.. hope everything is going well. I must say that this journey has had its fair share of ups and down...Have any of you had moments where you thought... I am almost there. Close to the finish, just a few more pounds and then I can enjoy real food again? I can tell you even I have had those thoughts. It concerns me at times, and I truly think it is the old habits still buried deep within me....wishing that I would let them resurface just one time.

I could not have asked for a better program to do. This program teaches you so much. For those of you that are just starting out, I want to say "WELCOME". You are certainly in for a real experience. But know that with any weight loss journey it is no magic carpet ride.. You have to be in the game for the success to take place in your life. You must look at this as a lifestyle change and never just a diet that begins and ends.. The dieting portion ends, but then the real part of the journey begins as you work to control those emotions, feelings, and things in our life that in the past have sent us to food.

What I love about this program is the subtle way you follow on this path eating your meals and figuring out that one Lean and Green meal yet we are clueless in the beginning of any lesson being taught to us...What we don't realize is that in every turn there IS a lesson for us to be learning. Recording meals teaches us a discipline that we must always be aware of every morsel that goes in our mouth. Weighing lean portions teaches us how to identify with what a certain portion of meat might look like on our plate when faced with no way to weigh.

When I first started this program, I made it a game to see if I could properly guess the weight of a lean portion.. All I can say is good thing I had the scale to count on, because I was never close. Counting condiments is probably the one thing I understood the least.. How could a few extra sprinkles or spray really add up. But they do! Restricting them is teaching us that awareness of everything having a value in our caloric intake at the end of the day. Lastly, Exercise..We are told after the first 3 weeks to begin a mild form of exercise. People are always missing the boat on that and doing PX90, Zumba, and other intense exercise and then wondering why they are not seeing the results.. This is with many so I am not pointing fingers. Exercise will play a role in our success, but during the weight loss phase it will be more about the beginning phases of creating the habits first, then a calorie burn thing. WE have to remember that we are eating very low calorie, and too much exercise will reverse the process and cause us to stall. What we continue to do throughout the program is learn how to balance it all.. As calorie intake increases when we bring new foods back in, the exercise will need to step up to meet that. It is all calories in vs calories out and balancing that to maintain what we have lost.

I can not stress to you enough how much importance there is in following the guide as the quick start guide instructs..Measure, weight, track...it all serves a purpose down the road when do need to know our calorie intake and how many calories we burn. Don't think it is too much trouble or it is not needed...

Ok enough of that. I am getting off my soap box for now but remember it all plays are part. They created this program and they know what they are doing. If you follow it to the "T", you will reap the benefits down the road...In the meantime,

Keep pushing for your goals, have the big picture in mind. It may only be a pound or 2 you list week, but in the end it all adds up..
GOD BLESS!

IN THIS FOR THE LONG HAUL

As I continue on my health journey....I have given a lot of thought as I get closer to the end of the weight loss phase..Frankly, it is scary. After reaching my first goal, I made a choice to transition and maintain that loss...I did really well. I went to Disney over the holiday with the family and did a great job of making good choices. But that is only a few weeks from the rest of my life. I recently decided to come back full force to the program, and get a few more pounds off now that I see I can actually do this pretty easily.

Isn't it funny how even when we lose the weight, inside we still feel like we are not done. I hear people on Facebook saying things like 10 more pounds and I can have what I want. I don't think they get it, and for a time I didn't get it either.

Losing this weight is only half the battle and If I use the mental thinking that I have accomplished it all, I will only set myself up for failure too. This journey is to change my life is for good not just for a season. We must understand that our choices going forward must be reflective of the different habits we are learning today. We have to continue to make healthy food choices, and realize that our bodies will go right back if we don't watch our choice and truly make this a habit change.

This program has not only changed how I eat, but how everyone in my house eats. I don't eat seperately. We modify a little for those not on the program in the house, but there is no reason that you have to be singled out at meal time. Everyone can eat what you are eating, and everyone can benefit from healther choices.

Don't have the mentality that you are done..don't put a time limit on your health. It is something I am learning and something you will learn as you go down this same path. If you need help with the program or are looking to lose weight and get your life on a healthy path, I would love to talk more with you..simply visit my info site at www.getslim4good.com or message me at pattie@getslim4good.com. We are in this for the long all...enjoy the ride!

WHAT CAN I SAY?

Hello friends.....
I thought about what I could blog about. I want to say something that would impact lives to want to take that same plunge into getting healthy that I did... What could someone have said to me that would have made a difference? Then I was like duh, there was something said that made an impact for me... My hubby. I was so upset at where I had allowed myself to go with regard to my weight. I had looked into this program without anyone knowing because I didn't want anyone saying that it was just gonna fail again. I was running out of options outside of gastric bypass and that scared me. While watching the BL show, and hearing the doctor speak to each contestant about how bad their health was...it all took over my emotions and I got really upset. My hubby was there and I told him I had went to check out this program... He said, "Why don't you do it?" I said because I don't want it to fail and waste our money again... He said, "What if it is the one thing that works for you?".... my husbands encouragement is appreciated more than he will ever know, because that one statement changed my life.
If you have someone in your life that encourages you, you are blessed beyond measure. Sometimes we need someone to lead us. My advice to anyone thinking about making a journey to better health....don't waste time. Go for it! No matter how much you have to lose, start...just start. Once you start, make small obtainable goals but have that big picture. See yourself as you would be once you reached your goal.. What will it feel like? What will people say to you? Etc... feel it..live it...get that as your big picture.
It IS something you can do....some of us just need a little nudge. So, I am nudging you.... I want to help you.. If you want to know more about what I have done to lose 141.5 to date, visit http://www.GetSlim4Good.com. Then take the steps to get started on an amazing and life changing journey.
Blessings!

TIME TO GET ER' DONE!

2012 is to be my year to finish what I started and get this done...I lost another 3 pounds to day and my loss total is 141.5 pounds...

A lot of people ask me how I do..I think choosing this over having loads of medical issues wasn't a hard desicion..I had to get my head and heart into this and have the right program..This program makes it all easy quite honestly...I have done many and by far this was the easiest...plus I have learned so much along the way that I know I will be able to keep this off down the road...I did do one thing that stands out with me....I read everything..every book, every guide, every blog, every review..I have lived and still live on the internet trying to understand how to get myself healthy again...This is my life and my job and my health is important to me..
It wasn't in the beginning, but it is now..
Now I have taken that knowledge to helping others. I have become a health coach for the program that has helped me....I love coaching and I take it serious. I understand that these are human lives trying desperately to lose weight and I don't just take an order and forget about them....I work as hard with them as I work with myself to get them motivated and on track...
I have to admit, since I started coaching others..I really think they help me as much as I help them. I am excited to see their success but know that I must first set the example to them. I love what I do now as a coach. I do take it seriously. but I get so darn mad everytime I see a coach telling people it is ok to cheat a little and I don't really count this myself...DO NOT GIVE YOURSELF PERMISSON! In doing so you only hurt yourself and set yourself up to fail at some point. There will be a time for enjoying other foods AFTER you have reach your goal..We are changing and removing old habits and learning to incorperate new healthy habits into our lives....Stick to the plan...The plan was designed that way for a reason. If you follow it as it was designed you will see the success that I have seen.

My other bit of advice today...is do your own research..You will never learn how to eat properly if you are not figuring it out and understanding it for yourself. While place to go for support are great, they are not doing this for you. Read your guide books, understand where the info comes from...Ask the questions and get the answers, but go back later and verify where it came from. Don't eat a recipe without knowing that it complies..Do the math.. Part of this is learning. There are many people out there giving false guideance... I can assure you everything I tell my clients, I can back up by the program Nutritional people or by the guides and books provided...

Ok....off the soapbox and onward to have another successful week...you have one too!
Keep inspiring!

OK...so if you are looking to start your health journey and you want a program that works..I would love to talk to you and coach you on your path to a healthier and happier you.....Go to my website www.getslim4good.com or drop me a message at pattie@getslim4good.com....I can assure that I am coach that takes this seriously and I am here to help you succeed. Granted you will put in the work, but together we will keep you on path and keep you pushing to acheive your goals!

Hugs,

New Year, New You!

As I came to my 2 year anniversary of my journey, I asked myself what was different in 2010..How did I keep my resolution when for so many years before I had failed. Lots of what you read below is true...It was a revelation. I didn't set sail on this journey with a well thought out map of hat I was going to do, and when it would happen by. I had a plan..I thought it out, and I followed it thru. I knew what my long term plan was and what my short term goals were. I made manageable steps thru the process and each step drove me to succeed. I am hoping that the article I read will help you...
My advice:
Take the time to write down your goals. How much do you want to lose and how long will it take to get there. What mini goals will there be along the way. How will you see yourself when you get there, what will it feel like. What will people say when they see you and how will you react. It is like writing a play..The play of your healthy life. Every book has a title..A beginning, middle, and end. Within that book are chapters..points and stops along the way as the story unfolds...Another chapter in my life is starting. The story continues...What is your story...What do you see yourself...If I wrote a book, The title of my book would be "Tackling Mountains-A Journey of Health"...What would your story be called? Think about it and get to writing!

If you are looking to make that change and get on track this year.. I have started a Private Challenge Group. We will offer challenges to motivate you and keep you on track. I hope you will join me and others as we support each other to get and stay healthy for good...If you arent't sure what to do to lose the weight or how to get started.... I have the program for you. I highly recommend the one that has gotten me to where I am today...136.5 pounds gone for good!
Visit the info website at http://www.GetSlim4Good.com
The good news is that you get me as a FREE health coach provided with the program, I get to pay it forward and help guide people down a path I have already been on. I know what to do, and how to be successful. I have access to the tools you need to succeed. I am with you every step of the way till you reach your goal. Check out the website and lets talk soon!

A great article:
Why do so many people talk of, and even admit to, making New Year's resolutions when almost none of them will be kept?

Resolution: "The state or quality of being resolute; firm determination. Resolving to do something…"

Is it a self-defeating prophesy or just an empty wish?

It's a mystery. Or at the very least, a paradox.

It's not a resolute or firm determination, as much as a leftover list for Santa just in case he might want to bring us something before next Christmas.

Statistics show that somewhere in the vicinity of 97% of New Year's resolutions won't be kept…why? Goals expert Michael York offers his explanation and what to do about it…

"What if we resolved to make better choices and better decisions?

What if…there were a whole new way to get to your destination? To do this, or become that? As many studies and statistics as there are to support that resolutions just don't hold water or help us develop the habits that lead to what we say it is we want, there are equally as many supporting the fact that many people, in fact most people, don't set goals"

York says effective goals are more than just thinking or stating a "wish" out loud but actually taking a pen and paper and beginning the process. Promoting his case that success in any endeavor has substantial evidence that it is a PROCESS. The getting from point A to point B.

As a consultant and author of The 10 Commitments,

York asks live audiences, "If success is a journey then why can't we get better directions?

And why our repeated failures with resolutions and goals?"

The reasons he says are simple…

1. Most people expect not to keep a resolution

2. Most don't know how to truly set goals or don't believe it matters

Spanning a 30 year career as a disc jockey, journalist, salesperson/manager and now as a business consultant to selling organizations,

York offers his evidence on the secret of goals.

"Hidden in our everyday lives is the real truth.

Architects know it.

Coaches know it.

Builders and rocket scientists know it.

Blueprints and game plans and models WORK!"

In his E book Uncommon Goals, York takes the simple approach. "Goals are personal. Or should be. It's more about gaining an understanding of what it really means to have goals as a compass to take you in a specific direction or away from some undesirable destination.

Of the small percentage of individuals who set goals (typically salespeople)it is often something that has been handed to them from someone else, seldom anything more than a number you must deliver. Ship this number of packages, make this number of sales, etc. In short, WORK goals"

Maybe his greatest success, York is quick to point out, is as a husband of 27 years and a father of two, "Life is bigger than work, not everyone got the memo on that one. That's the critical thing to consider when setting goals or priorities for our lives"

For more on his goals for life, as well as work,

get the E book on the web that can be downloaded for free.

It's called UNCOMMON GOALS and is available at:

Where Has The Time Gone..

Wow! Can you believe it has been an entire year since the last time I blogged here.. I don't even know where to begin. So much has happened since the last time I was here. There is so much to share. I will try to bring you up to speed on what has been going on in my life without making this post a book.
As of today I have lost a total of 136.5 pounds total. I have pretty much maintained well over the past year with a few more pounds coming off along the way.. I have gone from size 26 to size 12 in 2 years time. Through exercise I have toned quite a bit and I am happy with how I look.
I have continued my journey to get a black belt. I am currently at my brown belt level. While it is hard work and takes lots of dedication, I am enjoying the fact that I can even do the stuff at all.
Eating has taken on a new roll in my life. It no longer is front and center..my health is. If you remember from my previous posts, I took on the roll of a health coach for the same program that helped me.. I have been blessed to be a part of the many lives that have transformed as a result of this amazing program. To play even a small part in that is truly inspiring to me. They keep my head in the game and help me to keep my focus and set the example. My heart goes out to those that struggle like I once did..I want them to know that there is hope, but it takes them to make the first step.
What I have found over the past 2 years is that what you put into it, is what you get out. You have to educate yourself. Read anything and everything that make you the expert for your life. Ask questions, do the research. The internet is full of sources for answering your questions. I think for me if I could put my finger on the one thing that got me where I am today, it was my friends both close and people I have met along the way. I think it important to seperate yourself from those who bring you down. They aren't your friend if they are not trying to help you. They should want you to succeeed as much as you want to. Surround yourself with people who will keep you on your path, and will speak victory and success over you. Do not give up...
Here is my motto:
"If you think it is a mountain...it probably is, but with slow steady steps in a forward direction, even the biggest of mountains can be conquered. You will eventually find yourself on the top of the world!"
Don't stop..keep at it.. YOU CAN DO ALL THINGS!

I'M STILL ON THE JOURNEY......

I kinda wondered how things would go as I got closer to the big goal, and as I thought it would...the scale has slowed down a lot for me. With all the exercising I am doing now, I think I have stabalized my weight...until this past week when it began to move again! I was so excited to see the new number that I got on and off the scale a few times just to be sure.. I have lost another 5 pounds! I am now officially at 110 pounds down and 15 pounds from my next goal..It should be my final goal, but I say next goal because I have come to realize that losing my weight is really on part of the goals I have set for myself. I want to maintain and keep it off..That is why I feel without a doubt I have done the right program this time. Not only am I learning about weights, food portions, controlling urges, and more than ever about how my body works with regard to food..there is so much more to learn yet. If I think of this as a diet with a beginning and an end, I only fool myself. There is no end..This is a lifetime of little goals along the way and each success is victory for me and an confirmation to move forward. I hope that all of you realize that this is definately something each of you can do.I can't stress to you enough how important it is to always keep a positive outlook even when the day didn't go so great. Just find something positive in your day...Like, so you slipped up and failed..don't dwell on that..The positive would be that you didn't gain weight that day and you caught yourself and got back on plan...
It's all baby steps for us all..and even at 110 down, I am still on the journey to better my overall health..not just for today (even though I take this one day at time), but for every day of my life. Wishing you all much success and you journey too..Please feel free to email any time..I would love to chat and shar what has worked for me..pattie@GetSlim4Good.com.. I really enjoy helping others get on the path to better health..PEACE!

WHAT A WAY TO END A YEAR....

Wow...So much has happened since the last time I posted here..Things have been pretty incredible and life is ever changing for me. I finish that 21 day Bootcamp in September..I improved my bridge run time and found a love for running in the process. The Boot Camp stretched me at times, but it was all good and I learned so much about myself and how much farther I go.

In fact there have been several exciting things happen..The most exciting is that I started this journey in January 2010 and I finished the year 105 pounds lighter and a whole lot happier. I took myself to levels I never imagined. Just to bring you up to speed. After my first Boot Camp, I was addicted..so I did another one! Just as fun and just as challenging. Still doing karate. I am now an Orange Belt and continuing to learn and grow there as well. I did a Kata competition and I participated in a Sparing event where I got to train with the Blackbelts and learn about sparing. What fun!

The holidays were a little bit of a challenge, but I survived. I got to go see my family. Enjoyed the healthier feel to the holidays. To celebrate that, I registered with my family and several family members to run what was my first 5K run on Thanksgiving day in Nashville at the Habitrot Run! What a way to start the holidays. I did really well and finished my 1st 5K in 39:16 min. Not crazy good, but not bad either for a beginner. The important thing is I finished the race. Thanksgiving and Christmas was no longer revolving around food. It was about new beginnings and health. The best holidays ever!

Ohhh...Did I mention that I did 2 more 5K's before Christmas! Yes..The next race was the Reindeer Run in Nassau Bay, Texas where I ran the race in 38:39. The next one was the Dickinson Gator Crawl where I finished in 37:00. Do you the pattern of improvement? I was so excited. There hasn't been many races once the weather got cold, but I fully intend to pick this up again in the spring. In fact, my first scheduled race is the Warrior Dash on March 19th in Conroe, Texas where I will run a 3.3 mile race/11 station obstacle course. This will be a challenge. If I complete it ok, or should I say when I complete it...I will sign up for the big obstacle 6 mile event in May called the Original Mud Run. Yes, did I mention it is all done in the mud! I am so looking forward to this event and being a muddy (and healthy) mess. LOL.

Well, as I look back on 2010... I think what a whirlwind year this was. A year ago things were so different. I was so very unhappy with myself and my health wasn't the best. Out of the gate January 2010, I started an amazing journey to better my health. The year started out with me standing at the bottom looking at the mountain I needed to climb to get to where I wanted...it was huge! I was scared of failing yet again, and I was ashamed of what I had allowed myself to become with regards to my weight and appearance. But because I was determined to succeed and had both my mind and my heart in the right place, day by day, step by step, pound by pound, I worked on the mountains in my life.

I lost 105 pounds as the year came to a close. I ran my first of many 5K runs, I completed 2 Boot Camps, I started Karate! (I know Master G-quite the shocker LOL) Blackbelt 2014 here I come! I do want to lose a little more and will know when I get there but somewhere around 20 pounds. January 1st I closed the book on 2010, reset the clock and start the New Year fresh to finish this and see what new is in store for my life.
This journey to better health has been amazing to say the least. I have met some of the most wonderful people this year that each have offered me encouragement and support. They have carried me at times and always been my side. I have been richly blessed to find your friendships and I know they will be lasting ones. To you I say a heartfelt THANK YOU
You know behind every successful person, there is that one certain someone that paves the path for us and leads the way. In my life, it is my husband. When I started this, I remember saying...what if I spend the money and I fail again. He said to me, "what if you do it and it works." if it wasn't for that, I would have talked myself out of it. But I did start and now look! My husband and my kids enlisted to help me and they have said no more times than I can count. My kids are the fridge police! I think I would have easily cheated without them to remind me that I could do this. Weakness in our mind can be really controlling. To my hubby and kids, YOU are my world, my light, my everything... Thank you for loving me enough for all of us when I didn't love myself that much. God and the 3 of you are what got me to this point. Now we are the family that works out together, does karate together, runs together....etc... THANK YOU SO MUCH! The Lord blessed me with a strong and determined individual to lead our family. You are such an awesome example for our kids and for others to see. I Love you!
To my Brother...you have been the rock of our family since Mom died when we were very young. It was a hard road for us growing up without her and Dad did his best. A huge load for a young man to carry was watching after this sister.. I was quite a handful. You were an awesome example and I held you on a pedestal. You always watched out for me. And then you became the rock of your own family only to live the loss of a wife with young children to raise like we were. I'm so sorry... but you have done an amazing job and you have a beautiful family. Life is never perfect. Families aren't perfect. Miles and busy lives have separated us. I'm so glad we spent time together this year and I look forward to more time together. You have raised an awesome bunch of kids..I love you all.
There are so many incredible people to thank for this amazing year...many of you have touched my life beyond measure. You know who you are and from the bottom of my heart I thank you for all you have done and are doing to help me reach my potential. I'm running this race to win! I guess when we open our hearts, things appear to us much differently and the transformation is allowed to take place. This has been my year of transformation. Those who are very close to our family can tell you that I am not the same person this year. That's a good thing people! Lol ...I love the new me, but I'm not done yet. There is still work to be done.
To those of you walking a similar path to better health, I tell you this... If it looks like a mountain...it is. But when you take it one day at a time and keep chugging along, the next thing you know you are at the top! Don't quit, don't stop, and don't give up. If you don't have a support system, find one...make it happen for yourself. Avoid those that are negative in your life, and surround yourself with positive, supportive people. Don't let any of the "stuff that comes up" keep you from obtaining what you really want for yourself. Keep pushing forward and find your rocks to lean on....You will find them at your work, on Facebook, in your home, friends, family...etc... And most importantly in God and in your church. If you don't have a church, find one or ask me. You can do anything you set your mind to. This was my year of transformation. Next year is about finishing the job and paying it forward to help others. It can be your year too.
God is doing an amazing work in my life and I am humbled and bless by his love for me and for others who seek Him. He loves us all so much. I couldn't do my life right without him and I encourage each of you who don't have a relationship with God to make 2011 a year of seeking Him and his plan for your life. Once we align ourselves with God, there is nothing we can't accomplish!
God Bless each of you. Thanks for this incredible year..it ranks right up their with finding the love of my life ( yes, that's you Bob!) and being blessed with our 2 sons. God is good everyday...I just had to get my eyes off me and focused on him.
I am so happy that for a change I can have a different New Years resolution this year instead of weight loss...you have no idea how exciting that is! Happy New Year everyone....for me, this year is my
HAPPY NEW LIFE celebration.....I'm on top of the mountain and the view is spectacular!

......Now go chase after those dreams, and make them a reality!

FACING GIANTS

Wow..this 21-day Boot Camp has been an incredible experience so far. I am getting to learn different techniques that I have never even heard of before. This post will be about days 5-7.

BOOT CAMP DAY 4 Thursday
My muscles are sore today. The exercises are a bit more intense and I am sure there is more to come as we are expected to reach a little further and dig a little deeper. This evening started out with some bible study, videos, and just reviewing things..We went over some of the core scriptures. When I looked at the clock, an hour had past. Was I gonna get a break tonight and be able to rest my muscles? No...We still had a work out and what happened was we went over about 30 minutes. It was Tabata! Boy that is a killer workout. We still put in our time! Master G. announced the upcoming weekend workout options..
Friday night....Bridge Run to establish personal record #2
Saturday...Kickboxing Class and Make-up Class (for those that take Karate)
Sunday...Exercise at home..Bible Study..or rest..This is the Lord's Day

BOOT CAMP DAY 7 Saturday
Bridge run went well...not everyone showed up, but for those that wanted to run it was nice. My hubby even came along. The boys were with friends. I improved my run time again which means I moving forward..I am really beginning to fall in love with the process. We did a little bit of excercise after the run..some sprints and stretching, etc...I was even given the opportunity to speak with some of the Boot Campers about my weight loss and tell some of my story. If it helps even one other person to take that next step in inproving their better overall health, that would be awesome.

LOVING THE PROCESS!

In this Blog posting I will tell you about Day 2-4 of Boot Camp...which is going well so far. But first I want to update you on my weight loss...I am at 88 pounds down as of today...Whoohoo..The scale is moving slow at this point, but I have picked up my exercise and we are working thru adjust my eating to offset the intensity. My clothes are much loser regardless...so I know I am losing inches which is ok too..Other than that, not much to tell. I think I know why they don't want us over-exercising..Because it actually builds your level of hunger. You crave more food. I am fighting it and doing ok...I still have my eye on my goal...

BOOT CAMP DAY 2
Well Day 2 of Boot Camp is now officially behind me.....I made it to my karate class before going to Boot Camp..I was hoping that it would not be too hard on me, but I did better than I thought I would..We pretty much just set our Crossfit PR Numbers for the class. We will compare those numbers as we move along in the process to guage our improvement as we go along.. Just getting oriented into the process. Master Garza talked about how some people take off from the starting line at a race going all out, and many of those people are not the first to finish the race, with some not finishing at all. He spoke of our lives are not measured by how fast we sprint away from the finish line....its that we run the full race and complete it.

1Corinthians 9:24-27 says:
"In a race, everyone runs but only one person gets first prize, so run your race to win. To win the contest you must deny yourself of many things that keeps you from doing your best. An athlete goes to all this trouble just to win a blue ribbon or a silver cup, but we do it for the heavenly reward that never disappears. So I run straight to the goal with purpose in every step. I fight to win. I'm not just shadow-boxing or playing around. Like an athlete, I punish my body, treating it roughly, training it to do what it should, and not what I want it to do. Otherwise, I fear that after enlisting others to run the race, I myself might be declared unfit and ordered to stand aside."
To me, what I get out of that is that each of us have our own race to win in life but it isn't just about the trophies and "things"..our race is for far greater a purpose..It is to fulfill all that God has for us..and that in order to truly succeed and hear the words "good and faithful servant", we must put God first and then everything else will follow.

Master Garza is amazing man of God. It is such an honor to be training under him for this Boot Camp..He is wealth of information and knowledge both in his Martial Arts training and in his spiritual training. He brings God to the front of his studio and he blessed because of that..transforming many lives and creating lifelong friendships along the way.

Back to the training...We did do a little mit work with our gloves too..the PR stuff took much our time. Day 3 will take it up a notch..

BOOT CAMP DAY 3
Take it up a notch is right! Day 3 of Boot Camp brings a little bit of stiffness in my body, but nothing I can't handle. I can sure feel the areas that had not been getting worked prior to this. Tonight Master Garza taught us about the difference between a Sprinter (HIIT) and a Runner (LIT), and how the two train and what the difference are.
HIIT=High Intesity Interval Training
LIT=Low Intensity Training
We got alot of information on this, but the short version is this (or at least what I grasped):
There are visual differences between the two.. The Sprinter has larger muscles, The LD Runner is smaller in build. The Sprint has a lower Body Fat%, etc.. HIIT traumitizes your body, allowing you quicker results and the effects last beyond the actual workout. With LIT, you burn alot of calories during the training, but they stop when you are done and everything is more gradual. You are not traumitzing the body. That being said...the HIIT is the better and more effective of the two.
Well, we found that out first hand because we got put to the test at Boot Camp. We did alot of Plyometrics for Day 3, along with running Sprints in between that..It was quite intense and he ran us teams of 5..so we had to stay with our team and encourage one another. Fast Sprint, jog, repeat.

BOOT CAMP DAY 4
I think I am realizing that the intensity to this Boot Camp is just getting started. Day 4 was crazy intense..especially for someone like me who is just starting out in all this. My exercise for the day started out with Karate class..I had a different instructor and he was pretty intense. I left class, changed my clothes and then went right into Boot Camp. It started out with some Bible study which I think is awesome..Master Garza has a way of explaining things in terms that really make sense and shows us how it applies to our everyday life. Plus by starting out the evening with the word, it sets the tone for the entire evening.

We began the evening with jumping rope and learning jumping techniques. Next was the Kettle Bell work out...Now for those of you who are not familiar, it is a semi-round weight with a handle and a flat bottom..remind me of swinging an anchor. Anyway, you hold this and do certain movements. It doesn't look like much, but it killer. A great exercise tool for sure. We did that for a little bit, and then went back to jumping rope. The last time I jumped rope, I was a litle girl..so my coordination was a little off. I almost forgot how to do it! The next item up was the Medicine Ball..thank God mine was a 6 pound weight because at that point it felt like 100 pounds..Of course there is special techniques he is teaching us all along the way with each item. At one point we had to do pushups with the ball in one hand, and then both hands on the ball....Near impossible for me at this point. I hope to get there before the Boot Camp ends..Lastly, we went on the mats and did something called Tabata. It appears to be a series if fast based sets (8) that you do as fast as you can..with a very short rest in between each..We used the medicine ball and did situps..I was workin those abs, but each set got harder and harder. After that we put on kickboxing gloves and hit combinations on the bags. We finished the evening nice and sweaty.

Master Garza tells us that we had not seen the hardest of this yet...Now, THAT make me nervous. I am struggling now...but I will keep the smile, and keep giving my all. I'll be back to update you soon...So far so good. 16 days remain after today. Keep me in your prayers. I still can't beleive I am doing this, but I must say I am enjoying it all. The friends I am making, the lessons I am learning, the teamwork, and stretching myself..It's all part of the growth I came to get..mentally, physically, and spiritually..I don't think we ever stop growing, but I can tell you that I have surprised myself this year...I have not been one to complete things I start, so this will be huge for me both with the Boot Camp and in my weight loss. I can see the finish line and I staying focused. I hope that each of you are having the same kind of successes...Just remember, you are your own unique creation..and you have your own race to run in life. Do your best, keep your focus....and don't stop till you get there... If you need an awesome program for weight loss and learning healthy habits for life...go to google http://www.GetSlim4Good.com

TRANSFORMATION

September 12, 2010

I tried to find one word that would best describe my life at this very moment. TRANSFORMATION is the word that I came up with. I looked up the word in the dictionary....it says:
1. The act or process of transforming.
2. Change in form, appearance, nature, or character.
Wow, that is the perfect word for me! I think of the process that a caterpillar goes thru to become a beautiful and transformed Butterfly. It is amazing to witness and you can only wonder what the caterpillar must think of himself by comparison...yet one day he goes to sleep and the next time he wakes up, he is transformed into something so beautiful and different....I remember feeling miserable....it hasn't been all that long ago. I didn't like the way I looked. I was quite unhappy. But after finding this awesome program I have began to transform. I am starting to see the changes now for myself. You go thru a season of seeing the numbers move, but not seeing it in yourself just yet. Others are noticing, but it takes you awhile to see it for yourself. I know that not only my outside is transforming, but inward too... I smile more, I carry my head up..not down..I feel worthy.

Up to this point, I have taken steps to transform my eating and lose the excess weight. I have been successful and I am happy to report that to date, I have lost 85 pounds.I am ever so close to my initial weight goal. As I grow closer to my goal weight, the loss has become slower. I did start exercising, and as I mentioned in my last post...I began karate. When you have been overweight for so many years like I had been...running was not top priority on your list. In fact, it was like Climbing Mt. Everest in my mind. I truly hated it. Now it wasn't always that way for me. I was quiite the sports person in my younger day. I ran track and field, did the shot put, long jump, high jump, hurdles....you name it in the area of Track and Field, I did it..But that wasn't all the sports I did... I was on the Basketball team, the Volleyball team, Field Hockey, I played Softball, Powderpuff Football, was in the Flag Corp, and the list goes on. My Big Brother was athletic, so I guess that is where I got from because no one else was athletic in our home.. In fact, growing up in an Italian home....the biggest sport was Pasta rolling! Who could roll the most pasta on the fork and get it all your mouth...LOL... Of course I was pretty good at it. I guess it caught up to me. Ok, enough of that....getting back to what I was gonna tell you about running.

I started my karate classes, and I thought what did I get myself into? Pretty much every class, I have been made to run the mat. I was kinda like what does this have to do with the latest karate moves I should be learning... Well, I didn't complain..I just figured it wasn't gonna hurt me to face my fears of running. I had kinda been dealing with that already anyway with running the bridge during my husbands Blackbelt run. we actually kept it up weekly until it got warmer. I was starting to get better at it. While I am no speed runner at this point, my last 2 mile run was 28:39....I hadn't run much since it had been too hot... Just some time on the treadmill.

I've been taking 2 karate classes a week now since I started. I even got to do my first cross fit testing...it was tough. I look forward to seeing what my numbers are like in 6 months from now.. I wasn't too good with pushups and sit-ups...I just have not built up my core yet. I tried my hardest. I have also taken in some kickboxing classes since I got back at it....I must say, I LOVE kickboxing....not a little bit, I LOVE it a lot.....I just wish I was years younger...I am so glad that kickboxing is in a lot of my classes....So far so good. I know I am working parts of my brain that have not worked in a while. Memorizing all the forms and movements will come in time...hopefully.

Ok, so I have taken on karate and things are going ok....so what else could I have to tell you? I took on a 21-day Boot Camp. No, I am not crazy...or at least I don't think so right now. It actually started tonight and I couldn't wait to blog about it. Since weight loss is moving along, I am going to take the next 21-days to move you thru the next step in my journey to be slim....BOOT CAMP! Get ready.....
Before I start, I do want to mention about the slowing weight loss.... I have been working with the clinic coaching team, and we have added some extra protein to my diet...just to help with the extra calories I am burning right now...as a result I am not in ketosis so weight loss will be slower...part of me changing and taking this to the next level.... This my friends is where exercise is suppose to come in....With this program...everything come in the proper time. I have spent since January working on the diet and following the program.. I was told to keep the exercise to a mild form which I have until recently...now that I have the energy, I can take on more and more. That is what will help to keep it off....that and of course continuing to watch my foods and eat properly.... I hope to lose a lot of weight during the Boot Camp..

Here goes:
Boot Camp Day One-Orientation
Day one begins with introductions, housekeeping rules, etc... What is so awesome about this Boot Camp is this is not only going to transform us physically, but mentally, and spiritually too... (ooh there is that word again...TRANSFORM). Tonight we filled out some medical paperwork, and who to contact if we pass out or get injured. With that out of the way, we went over some core value scriptures, and some of the habits we will form...next it was time to get our numbers so we have something to compare to. It amazes me how much this is lining up with the weight loss process I have done... I took measurements and weighed when I began as a way to compare my progress....this is the same. we will measure our progress by running 2 miles and getting our starting time, and then tomorrow we will get sit-ups, pushups etc... I assume. I'll let you know how that goes... So anyway, we went to the bridge to run...and when I hit the finish line, Master Garza gave me my time....it was 25:43.....that is like 3 minutes better than the last time I ran the bridge.... I was so excited...can't wait to see what it will be in 20 more days. We will do all of that again at the end of Boot Camp.

Well, that's it for tonight..I start Day 2 tomorrow... I will update you as I can. Oh by the way, I will be getting my first belt of color the end of this month...I will be a yellow belt soon.. I must continue to get in my classes over the next month... I will be doing karate and Boot Camp back-to-back for some of the days... I know it will be challenging for my body, but I am up for it, and will work thru any pain I might have..just say a prayer for me....see ya soon..

STEPPING OUTSIDE OF THE BOX

So much has happened since the last time I was here sharing with you. One of the biggest things to happen was that my 11 yr old son earned his 1st degree Blackbelt! I could not be more proud of him. My husband also earned his 2nd degree Blackbelt which is an incredible accomplishment. The dedication and determination the two them showed during this process amazed me. They went thru a lot to get to that point of completion, which got me to thinking. Martial Arts is alot like the journey I am on to get healthy again.

During Karate graduation, there was a video shown of an incredible pastor/speaker by the name of Francis Chan. He uses the reference of how as Christians, we tend to get content where we are. We crawl out onto a balance beam and we hold on tight and stay in our box. Our safety net. We don't want to step out because doing so might not be comfortable. We hope than we can just hang there thru life until we reach our destination and can jump off and throw our hands up like a gymnast does at the end of a routine. I could totally relate to that. I have gone thru much of my life staying within my comfort zone. I was afraid to step outside of that because in doing that, I might get hurt or something might happen. I have allowed fear to lead me for many years and keep me from many things.

I am happy to say that these days I am stepping outside of my box, in fact I don't even have any idea where my box is these days! I have now far exceeded any sort of weight loss expectations I have ever had...I am now 80 pounds down! I am sooo happy! I can not believe I am actually doing this. I sometimes think someone should pinch me. There is so much I want to do and I feel like for the first time, I CAN! In my last post, I talked about how I had started a weekly audio message call Coaches Corner. It is going really well sharing healthy messages, and a lot of people are finding the info helpful. But, the next thing I'm about to tell you is incredible news for me....I started taking karate classes and beginning my own journey to earn a black belt @ Al Garza Premier Martial Arts. Yes, I have REALLY stepped outside the box now. This is a 4 year or longer process depending on me, but I really gave it a lot of thought after watching it transform both my husband, and especially my son. If you have never considered karate as a way to get healthy, or a sport, please do. Not only has it helped teach my children about respect and discipline, it is far harder than it looks. I watched people during this process that truly inspired me. A pastor and his wife took on this journey, and his wife ran, and fought while suffering with Bronchitus. That's the heart of a Blackbelt and how important it was for her to complete the task. If you could just saw the determination on her face. My husband got his nose broken, went in the bathroom, let them pop it back, and never left. In fact, after resting a little, he finish the evening and never skipped a beat. I saw people give all they had in them, including my son. I too, want to reach that level of success with my weight-loss. A stop at nothing attitude.

In order for my husband and son to get their belts, they had to go thru years of belt levels and learning their skills... And then 8 final weeks of intense training that ends in a 3-day test where they are there from morning to night. Much like with losing weight, we must make choices to commit ourselves fully to the end of the result. It's hard work to lose weight and intake some consistency. I look at it this way, doing this continues the journey and the commitment I made to keep this weight off. Taking on a big task like this is just what I need to keep me focused. Wish me luck.... I am still incredibly scared and nervous about doing this. I'll be reaching deep and being taken from my comfort zone. I guess I'm more afraid that I won't be able to do it. I know that I will try my hardest, and being 80 pounds lighter will help me alot. I'll keep you posted on my karate journey as well. I've completed my first class this past week. I made my husband and kids take the class with me, just to make me feel less nervous. So far, my first day was running laps, learning the proper protocol for getting on and off the mat, and learning one of the kickboxing sets and practicing some boxing jabs and crosses, and bobbing (still learning the terms).

I just want to encourage others to let go of that death grip on the balance beam. You don't have to sit out there and miss out on God's best for your life. Step outside your box, and just go for it. It's scary but to have things you have never had, you gotta do some things you have never done. If I hadn't taken a leap of faith, and went and tried this weight loss program, I would still be eating bad, I wouldn't be coaching and helping others get healthy, and I would not be 80 pounds lighter, and starting my own journey to Blackbelt. What floors me right now is the person I am becoming, but it's a good thing and I'm excited to see what is next. I know the sky is the limit!

If you are looking to improve your health, don't wait anymore.. Visit http://www.GetSlim4Good.com to see what helped me get the weight off and turn my life around. You just don't realize how strong you are. You can do anything, once you set your mind to it. I can help you get there. I'm gonna leave you with two poems that I like. For me, they pretty much say it all...

My Comfort Zone
Unknown

I used to have a comfort zone
where I knew I wouldn't fail.
The same four walls and busywork
were really more like jail.

I longed so much to do the things I'd never done before,
But stayed inside my comfort zone and paced the same old floor.

I said it didn't matter that I wasn't doing much.
I said I didn't care for things like commission checks and such.
I claimed to be so busy with the things inside the zone,
But deep inside I longed for something special of my own.

I couldn't let my life go by just watching others win.
I held my breath; I stepped outside and let the change begin.
I took a step and with new strength I'd never felt before,
I kissed my comfort zone goodbye and closed and locked the door.

If you're in a comfort zone,
afraid to venture out,
Remember that all winners were at one time filled with doubt.
A step or two and words of praise can make your dreams come true.

Reach for your future with a smile; success is there for you!

It Couldn't Be Done
By Edgar A. Guest

Somebody said that it couldn't be done,
But he with a chuckle replied
That "maybe it couldn't," but he would be one
Who wouldn't say so till he'd tried.
So he buckled right in with the trace of a grin
On his face. If he worried he hid it.
He started to sing as he tackled the thing
That couldn't be done, and he did it.

Somebody scoffed: "Oh, you'll never do that;
At least no one ever has done it";
But he took off his coat and he took off his hat,
And the first thing we knew he'd begun it.
With a lift of his chin and a bit of a grin,
Without any doubting or quiddit,
He started to sing as he tackled the thing
That couldn't be done, and he did it.

There are thousands to tell you it cannot be done,
There are thousands to prophesy failure;
There are thousands to point out to you, one by one,
The dangers that wait to assail you.
But just buckle in with a bit of a grin,
Just take off your coat and go to it;
Just start to sing as you tackle the thing
That "cannot be done," and you'll do it.

My Best Days Are Ahead Of Me!

"We can confidently walk into anything God brings our way. You can do all things through Christ (Philippians 4:13). Nothing is too big for God."

How true. One day I am looking in the mirror thinking I will never see thin again, wondering when my health issues will get the best of me...scared for my children remembering what it was like to lose my Mom at the age of twelve....and the in a matter of months, I am seeing myself 77.5 pounds lighter and loving life, getting things back in order again. That's right...I made it past the 75 pound mark.. I am officially 3/4 of the way to my goal. Since the last time we have talked so many incredible things have happened. First, I want to share my surprise with you.

The last time I was blogged, I told you about a new thing I was working on. I finally got it up and going, and I am happy to announce "Coaches Corner" audio messages! Each week, I take a different health-related topic and I talk about it on a recorded message. It's about 5 minutes long, but topics that I feel each of you will find helpful and informative. You can even go back and listen to the ones you miss or hear them again. If you visit either of my sites...My group page called BE SLIM BUDDIES GROUP, or my other health Page called GET SLIM 4 GOOD, both with hold the weekly postings every Monday..and then also under the Discussions tab. I hope you enjoy them and ask that you please provide me your feedback on either site and suggestions for other weekly topics.

Now, moving forward...My husband and oldest son (Age 11) have completed their Blackbelt testing and have been awarded their belt levels. I am so proud of them both. Bob, has gotten his 2nd degree, and Michael,(who has grown up during this process and now wants to be called Mike) has gotten his 1st degree blackbelt. They worked hard for years and it has paid off..Their determination and how the Martial Arts is taught...kinda mirrors what I must do in my weight loss. There are times when I must give it all that I have to succeed that day, but the rewards are huge. There are days when you feel you can't do it anymore, but you find that place deep inside and you push thru.. I see Martial Arts has a form of discipline, just as I find right now in the weight loss journey I take. As a result, I have decided and made the committment to my health long term...just like the Martial artist who chooses the journey to blackbelt. I want to get that belt at the end of this too..I want to finish what I start for the first time in my life. Watching my husband and son go thru this, got me to thinking. I must find a form of exercise that will help me to maintain what I have done. So, what better way than to actually start a Blackbelt journey of my own. It takes approximately 4 years. My youngest son will graduate next year if he passes his test. I will be working on my own test. Another thing I am committing to...to see thru to the end. I will keep you posted on my weight loss journey and now I will add to it, my journey to Blackbelt..Eventually, I will reach my weight loss goal and I will transition into another phase of my life..I really feel like this will keep me focused, and connected with what is important to me. My health and my journey in life.

I will be training under Master Al Garza. I hope to get started in the next few weeks. Master Garza owns Al Garza Premier Martial Arts. He is an incredible instructor, but also an incredible man of God. It will be an honor to have his years of training and knowledge. I am so scared..Scared that I wont be able to finish it, but I going into this with an I will attitude..because that kind of attitude will create success. I am looking forward to it. Say a prayer!

As far as my weight goes, this month hasn't been crazy good, but it has been good and soon you will see a new me emerging...I ca't wait to cross the finish line...That will be an awesome day. I'll keep you posted...
Peace...

WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR?

Hi all,
I could not wait to come here today and tell you...I weigh daily, but usually wait until Monday to report...
I have officially reached my 3/4 goal of 75 pounds down. I have lost more, but I will save that till Monday. I am just so excited. I went into the clinic this past Monday and did my InBody scan, and my measurements....even thought the scale had not moved much, my body was re-adjusting and still losing in inches..so let that be a lesson to you that just because the scale isn't moving, don't get discourage. Your body is still doing something. Just stick to the plan and you will succeed thru any plateau.
I have officially lost 50.25 inches total..CRAZY! And, I have also nudged ever so close to a "healthy" range with my BMI. I do the scan again next month, so hoping I will be a healthy woman again.

My upcoming 5K run is just around the corner and I must admit, I am a little bit scared. I have been running a lot earlier in the day. This run is later when it is hotter. Hopefully, I will do ok. The important thing is that I am getting out of the box I have kept myself in for years. I feel so awesome. After my oldest son and Hubby get done with their Blackbelt testing and Graduation, I am hitting the kickboxing gym all out... The next step in my journey. I can't wait. I have read this quote many times, but Never has it spoke more to me than it does at this time in my life:

"When you do the common things in life in an uncommon way, you will command the attention of the world."
- George Washington Carver (1864-1943)

I am not trying to command attention of the world, but I would like the world to hear me when I tell about this program. There are so many men and women that need to lose weight, and many like myself have gone thru the motions for years looking for that one perfect pill or potion to cure my issues with weight... After spending the last 30 years fighting weight at various levels, I am hear to tell you that there is no special anything...just a special YOU who deserves to be healthier and happier.

What is amazing is that this will be the last weight loss program I ever do. I never had those thoughts with any other program, but with Take Shape For Life/Medifast, I KNOW that I will continue to lose the weight, and keep it off. For those of you that do not know, the Take Shape For Life Program is so much more than weight loss... This company has done an incredible job at putting all the pieces of the puzzle together. Not only providing us with an awesome selection of meal options ( like who would of thought Brownies and Ice Cream would help you lose weight ), and they teach you too...you have 1 meal a day following a list of healthy selections and you put together a meal....as times goes on, you slowly add in more healthy food options and you learn what portions are suppose to look like etc...Learning healthy habits that will keep the weight off and live a new healthy lifestyle. I can't tell you enough about how great this is...I am so happy to be a part of this. I am also excited to be able to coach people as they start the same journey. It would be an honor and a privilege to help you too and I would be happy to talk with you one on one.

I am working on a few new things.... To help keep people motivated. I'll be filling you in on it soon....

In the meantime, I want to leave you with this thought:
"The difference between 'involvement' and 'commitment' is like an eggs-and-ham breakfast: the chicken was 'involved' - the pig was 'committed'."
Where are you? Are you truly committed to changing your life and get healthy, or are you getting around to it after that Pizza? When, and only when you are ready to get yourself in the game, you will succeed.
Till we meet again.........

IT IS NOT A PERFECT WORLD, BUT RIGHT NOW IT'S PRETTY DARN CLOSE!

Wow, I can't believe it has been an entire Month since the last time I was here...It has a little busy..
To update you, I am continuing my journey with the Take Shape For Life Program using Medifast and continuing to love how easily it has been to fit this program to my life. I was never the person to succeed at losing weight, but this time I know the sky is the limit...Never has something been so obtainable to me. I really see this. I think it we be the first thing I have done in a long time start to finish. That is huge for me.
I have for the most part loved all the food options and I am contining to gain ground on my goals to lose 100 pounds at which time I will re-evaluate to see if I want to go further. To date, I have lost 72 pounds. I am excited to report that there will be even more options in the coming week. New products are heading to stores as we speak...Ice Cream! and Pancakes! How cool is that!
My next weigh-in is Monday and I am hoping to see the scale move after 2 weeks of the scale not moving..It is a little frustrating, but I try to remind myself that it didn't come on overnight. I am not the first to reach a plateau, and I know I won't be the last. I continue to eat and drink as the outline says...keeping focus on my next mini goal of 75 pounds lost.
I have taken on another venture..I have been given an opportunity to share my story of success with others by becoming a Health Coach. I am so passionate about this program. It has saved my life in many way..Last time I posted, I was just getting started...It has been such a rewarding thing. To see these folks reach goals and know that I may have inspired someone is surreal. I hope to touch as many people as I can. The other day, I had a guy at work walk up to be and tell me he started a weight loss program because of me..I didn't really know the guy..but he was keeping an eye on progess and was so impress he decide to do something..Wild to think, someone wanted what I had..up until recently I wanted to be like everyone else..slim and trim.
I just have one thing I want to share...I know how someone who hasn't started might be feeling or someone who is looking at a huge mountain to climb and has just started the journey..I know EXACTLY how you feel. I know it feels like just another diet that you will fail at..You look in the mirror and can't stand what you see..I thought that myself. I was scared, I was depressed, I was angry at myself to getting to the point I was at, especially after watching my Mom battle with weight-related issues...all the above. Take a deep breath, take the first step, and get ready for your life to change...I promise, I will never sugar coat things...I am honest and sometimes honesty hurts...It is both a blessing and a curse. People want the truth if the truth be told...but others really don't want to face it. It takes YOU being in the game to do this..to do any weight loss program..If you are doing this for someone else, that is fine..but it must also include doing it for you...You have to want this and be at a place where you are really ready to be honest..It isn't always gonna be easy..We don't live in a perfect world. You may fumble as you learn this in the beginning..It's ok..The important thing is that we keep trying till we get it right...I had mishaps in the beginning..not because I tried to cheat, but because I hadn't understood it all and was still learning..As you continue, it gets easier and you start to make it second nature. Soon there is no other option..your new life is the only way to go.
I look at the world differently now...I see so many overweight people, and yet I remain humble...I want to help them..I know I can help them...
There are such highs with this program. I have lost more sizes off my clothing..I have been running 2 miles on the bridge weekly...AND I am schedule to run a 5K in the coming weeks..I never thought 6 months ago that I would be here...lighter, happier, and wanting more of what a healthier life can bring me. You can do this too....Take the step...Step one is the hardest step..but the remaining steps are the most rewarding steps you will take....
I hope to have reached my goal by the next time we talk...say a little prayer!
Thanks for reading.

IF I CAN DO THIS, SO CAN YOU!

I am truly amazed at this point..It is June now and I am over halfway to my goal and still sticking to the program. For the most part the program has been simple to follow..I have had to adjust a little to changes, but suprisingly they are ones I met with determination..I really want this. The program is one of the easiest to follow in terms of keeping up with the guide. They make it easy for you. I truly believe that one of the keys to this program is how quick you lose weight..I think for someone like myself that wants it all to go away overnight, seeing fast results keeps me motivated. I started this journey wanting to lose 100 pounds..I am now at 67pounds down and I am still going strong. Every week I am driven to go to the next weigh-in. I don't feel I am being deprived of anything. I am not hungry, I am used to the meals and the food plan...I am adjusted and success is in my hands. I know that I will make it all the way now without a doubt...and I am more than ready, determined, and equipped to help others reach their goals too.

I am noticing incredible changes in my my body..ones that have been a long time coming. I am getting rid of the potato sack clothes and wearing more normal clothes that show my figure. I am happy with how I am looking and I want pictures of myself again. I cry everytime I think of how miserable I was, and how many years I had taken from my life. My heart goes out to those who still struggle. Don't get me wrong, this is a journey, and I knew that going in. It is about maintaining good habits of health that will keep me from going back. I have to work at this forever, but as time keeps progressing, that will get easier to manage.

I want to share my journey openly here. This is just a few of the changes I have personally seen...Here goes:

I no longer snore like a freight train!
I no longer stop breathing in the middle of the night!(apnea)
My legs don't stick together when I walk!
I don't get out of breath when I walk upstairs to my bedroom!
I no longer have 6 different sizes of clothes!
I see the scale AND my feet!
My blood pressure is normal and my blood work is coming back A-OK!
I can breath again!
I don't have problems with my knees because I am no longer trying to hold up a large body!
I like having my picture taken again!
I don't worry that people are talking about me!
I don't SUPERSIZE anything any more!
I no longer hate me...I LOVE ME!

I know, I know, all sounds goofy to most of you...but to someone who is struggling with weight, it's life saving. There are so many people suffering with the cycles of being depressed because of how they look and killing themselves by eating more. Food being the crutch that kills them. Diabetes is out there everywhere..The numbers are growing and not getting better...Now it affects huge numbers of children in the U.S....This is serious stuff folks. If you have kids...be the example of what you want them to be..If you drink and don't want a drunk..do something! If you eat and don't want a fat person, do something! We control this...there is noone to blame for our poor choices in life but ourselves. I read an article in a book..It said, that is you suffered a heart attack today, and you got up tomorrow morning...would you go right back to the same old habits or change what you had been doing? The answer for most is no we would change..but sadly some will go right back and they will die in time. To those that are lucky enough to survive a heart attack, they will take that as a warning and a second chance, and save themselves from those bad habits thqat aqre killing them. Well, we need to think that way today..We may not be the person who is given the second chance..We need to act now and there is an awesome program that can do it for us if we are just a willing party and put forth a small effort.
We live a sick society..Where we spend more time looking for ways to cure disease..instead of looking for ways to prevent disease. I am one that was on that path, but not any more! I will do everything to get myself healthy, stay that way, and share that vision with others..

I struggle...I would be lying to say this has been a total cake walk..We are human. But if you get back up every time you fall and feel yourself falling anf think about why you are hear in the first place...you will do it...I will tell you that this program is saving my life one day at a time which is how we must take this. It is a lifestyle change and changing old habits are not as easy as you think...If you are a drinker...not being around people who drink may be the lifestyle change you need to avoid the temptation..It not be fun at first, but once you make the changes..it may inspire someone else to take that same leap of faith. In time, your one single act to save yourself, could help thousands..and some of those people could be right in your own house..like your kids. They may not be overweight now, but if you do not think for a minute that your bad habits will not spill over think again.

My Mom was an overweight woman,as was her sister..I know the problems she had and how it affected her. Unfortunately me for me, my Mom died at an early age from Cancer..I am not sure her weight played a role in that but who knows. She was still restricted by her weight. I swore I would never be overweight like that..as I kid, I didn't like how it looked. Kids are cruel and sometimes people would say ugly things about my Mom. It would hurt me..yet I became an overweight Mom..It wasn't until I heard my own son tell me that he didn't want me dying because I was fat and that he would help me that made me realize I had become exactly what I did not want to be.

It is never too late...you are never too sick, too old, too this or too that...But you need to start now..You are only too late if you die..
You can make a change just like I did. If you need help, I will hold your hand every step of the way. I have been there and I am still walking thru it..but I will see it to the end..I will not go back....

I am a Health Coach now...it isn't a job, it is a true desire of my heart. I have seen what this program does, and how it has changed everything in my life for the better. I do this because I personally know what it feels likes to not like how you look...to be depressed when you are at the beach and you are the "fat chick" in the bunch. I hated it. Summertime was the time I loved the most in my skinny days and the time I hated the most in my fat days. I never wanted my picture taken so there will be years where my kids won't see my face when they look back. I felt like I didn't exist or better yet, that I didn't want to..I want to help people..the same way I was helped..This is the way to pay it forward. If you are my friend and you are currently on the program..you already know, that regardless of whether I am coaching you or not, I just want you to succeed just as much as I want myself to succeed..The more friends you have to support you, the better. Surround yourself by positive people who have a good grip on this program.Connect yourself with a coach that is not in it for the money, but it for your success and will keep in touch and keep you on track. Find a Coach you can connect with. Having a coach is so very important..The world is full of opinions on how to lose weight and what will work and not work. I have done them all and I am here to tell you that this works best..and it can work for you. With anything, it is about you taking the steps youself and being happy where you are..If you want to lose weight, you have to make the effort. If you make the change, be prepared for things around you to change and the pieces that don't fit will go away to make room for ones that do.

I WANT TO LIVE!...In the end, no donut, McDonald shake, no pizza, or beer will be with me.. It is a journey..One that comes with Focus, sacrifice, discipline...and loving yourself in the process..I wish you all the best..If this helps you in any way..let me know. I want to reach out to people and encourage them to make this step in their own lives..

Best of luck in your journey...I will be the one in the cheering section..rooting you on..

BIG CHANGES

Not to sure where I left everyone at the last time I was here...I know it was earlier in May and here it is the end of the Month already. Since this is Memorial Day Weekend, I would just like to say "Thank You" to all the men, women, and their family who serve to keep our great country safe and secure. The sacrifice you give, doesn't go un-noticed.

Ok moving along, I have some incredible things to tell you. First of all, I am at 61 pounds down since the last time we spoke...I have noticed some decline in my loss as I get closer to my goal, but I think that is to be expected. I am still averaging within the 2-5 pound loss range that I was told about when I first started the program. I feel incredible and I am really starting to notice BIG changes in my outward and inward appearance. What I mean by that it that I have seen alot of changes to the outer look, but more importantly the inward changes too. I am so much more confident. I am liking the new me more and more with each passing day. I carry myself differently these days, simply because I now like how I am beginning to look. I used to hold my head down and not look up, I knew people were talking about me, and I didn't want the world to see what I had knowingly become. I wanted to be someone else, and yet I struggled year after year with how to get out from under that. When I found this program, it was like my entire life changed for good...So THAT is what they mean by LIFE-STYLE changes! Well, boy has my life changed...and for the better.

I have to tell you the latest. I really suprised myself. Up to this point, I had not exercised too much. I just never had the energy to do much when I was overweight. I had made some attempts and walked the treadmill, but nothing really consistant. An opportunity came up where I could run with my husbands Karate group. My husband suggested that I just give it a try and see where I was at physically after losing over 1/2 of my goal weight. I was so scared. I can't tell you how quickly I fell back into that I can't do it attitude. I made every excuse in the books for the entire week leading up to the run. As each day grew closer to going, I had pretty much talked myself into not doing it. My kids and husband both were gonna run and I guess what changed my mind is my son telling me that I had done much already by losing the weight, that I could do this to..and he promised to be there to support me at the finish line.. Wow, that was deep! It really made me think, and it was on that basis that I made the decision just a few days before the run that I would do it.

I mentioned it to a few friends that I work with, and they said that they would like to do it too just to support me...One of the girls had never run either...Now that is friendship! I realize that there could be a lesson in this for more than just myself. We have always prided ourselves in teaching our children that whatever they do, they must be all in. When the boys started karate, we told them that once they started, they would see it to Blackbelt..and that committment is key in many parts of our life..from marriage, to jobs, to friendships, goals, etc..This whole run is that my oldest son can complete that committment and recieve his 1st Degree Blackbelt this summer. I need to be the person that I have taught them to be, and so far I have not been the best example with my weight loss issues. This is my chance to show them and myself, that I am truly committed to getting healthy, and that as a family we will see this thru.

Well, May 22nd..the big day arrives..We get up at 5am to get ready. I am still so scared about doing this run. Luckily, there is alot of support and about 50+ people show up for Master Garza's run..Boot Camp people as well as those training for their Balckbelts. Master Garza begins with a pep talk which really spoke to me, and prayer (which I needed). Then we lined up at our starting point and off we go! I guess I am as ready as I will ever be..My friends show up to run and support me. So I take off and 27.41 minutes later I completed it! I did far better than I thought I would and it wasn't near as hard either. I DID IT! and I felt great..I wasn't like dying or anything. My recovery was good. What meant the most to me that day was the enourmous love I felt from my family, friends, and all the Karate folks that were there...I did not finish last. There were about 4 more that finished behind me and they had been doing his Bootcamp so I felt alot better. But as people finish, they lined up on the finish line and hollared and spoke words of encouragement to bring the last one in. It was so awesome that my husband ran back after completing his run, so that he could finish my race right by my side...And waiting for me at the finish line was my youngest telling me that I can do it, and being so proud of me as I crossed the finish line...WHAT A DAY! What a difference 61 pounds make in your ability to breath. I was ready to go again...and I did just this morning!(May 30, 2010). Another great run, and I improved my time to 27.10 for 2 miles..Not a record for true runnings, but for me it is awesome. My friends and I have decided we will try to do this weekly at the bridge, and during the week after work, I will try to run a few blocks (1 mile) to help improve myself. It is a great form of exercise and I think I am going to love being a run.

Well, that's about it or now...Monday is a holiday, so I will not be able to go into the clinic for a weigh-in until Tuesday. I will wait for that official number before I post again...I look forward to blogging again soon.

This Amazing Race

I have done so many diets in my lifetime. I think that if I tried to name them all, I wouldn't be able to remember them all. I want to tell you about one that stood out for me the most...I had heard about a program local in my area..it wasn't cheap but then again which of them are. I went for a evaluation, EKG, and discussed with the doctor. I was put on several meds...one of them being Phen-fen. I lost weight like crazy, but I was truly wired for sound.. I lost 65 pounds on that diet, but the minute I got off the drugs it came back and this time with a vengance. I not only gained all of back in a short period of time, but I added to it.

My point in telling you this, is that all these diets that we do, that we fail at only messes up our metabolism more. In my case, I was one of the lucky ones that didn't get the bad effects of being on phen-fen. That was scary to think that something I was taking to try to help my health, had the capability of hurting me worse than the food. I wish I would have found this program a long time ago. In the back of my mind, noone needed to tell me I was overweight, I already knew it. I had so many people offer me advice back then. I know they were just trying to help, but my gosh if it were that easy, do they really think that I would have not gotten thin sooner. It was always easier said the done for me.

I am sitting at 58 pounds lost on the program now and I am going strong. There is nothing stopping me. I know that this plan works and I totally get it. I must say that I am quite impressed. I have never had such great results before....and whats even better is that at now point have I dislike the food, or felt lacking.
